PERSONALITY

Personality:
Hadley infamously has two personalities. When not working for the Legion, she’s a very approachable, fair woman. Many find her attractive both physically and mentally, and she’s quite friendly and sociable. However, while working for the Legion, she becomes aggressive and fiercely loyal to her Legion fellows. Altogether, though, she’s independent and does things how she wants to do them while caring deeply for those she loves and those who need help.

Likes:
The Legion, Followers Of The Apocalypse, Great Khans, Unarmed weapons, second chances, things that are blue, days she can rest and/or get away from political troubles, and rare weapons and clothes.

Dislikes:
Mr. House, Benny, Powder Gangers, Fiends, drug dealers, (she killed Dixon in Freeside for continuously selling drugs to people despite her warnings to him), and people who use, pick on, look down on, or prey on innocent, usually poor people.

Fears/phobias:
Loosing those she loves and slipping back into addiction.

Chilling out at the safehouse and listening to New Vegas Radio, if that counts.

HOUSE AND HOME

Describe the character's house/home:
Hadley lives in the Legion safehouse located south of Nipton. Sometimes, however, when Caesar needs medical attention or her for another task, she spends the night at the Fort.

Significant/special belongings:
Considering herself a curio collector, Hadley has many rare weapons, objects, edibles, and clothes at the safehouse, all organized by what kind of item they are.

COMBAT

Peaceful or aggressive attitude?
When fighting enemy factions, aggressive, but when dealing with any other group of people, peaceful.

Fighting skills/techniques:
Because Hadley has worked closely with both the Legion and NCR, she knows every unarmed technique they had to teach. She also has picked up newer techniques from various people and faction s in the Wasteland. Her favorite technique to use is the Legion Assault.

Weapon of choice (if any):
Hadley’s main weapon is her pair of spiked knuckles, Love And Hate. As a sidearm, she likes the .45 mm pistol A Light Shining In Darkness that Joshua Graham gave to her.

Weaknesses in combat:
Energy weapons. Even though regular guns are hard for her to control, she can control them and use them with very deadly force. However, Energy Weapons feel alien and unnatural in her hands, so she doesn’t prefer them.

Hadley has one sibling, and older sister named Mackenzie Springs. Mackenzie is a Followers Of The Apocalypse doctor and tech specialist. Separated in childhood, Hadley didn’t even know she had a sister until she met her on accident when casually visiting the Mormon Fort in Freeside.

Partner/Spouse:
Hadley is in a romantic relationship with a trader named Jason Lee. They met for the first time when he was trading at the Legion Fort, but began to socialize when he found her socializing with Great Khans in Red Rock Canyon. He wanted to know why she was betraying the Legion and associating with their enemies, so Hadley told him everything about being a Khan and NCR citizen besides being a Legion Frumentarii. Soon after, the two fell in love and plan to someday leave the Mojave together to live in his private, undiscovered canyon far away from society.

Friends/Followers:
Hadley prefers the company of ED-E and Raul, mainly because of their political neutrality when it comes to her siding with the Legion. However, throughout her travels with these two, she has become very close to them in friendship. While Hadley is undercover or helps out the NCR, she confides in Boone, especially when her hometown, Bitter Springs, was attacked by the Legion. She didn’t kill any of her brothers, but let Boone take them out so the refugees wouldn’t be hurt. Hadley’s best friend is her sister, Mackenzie.

Enemies? Why are they enemies?
Although she doesn’t particularly hate them, the Brotherhood Of Steel doesn’t like her because she blew up their bunker. She thought about getting them and Caesar to work together, but he wouldn’t have any of it. So in the name of the Legion, she set their home to self destruct and watched it burn. Other than them, once the NCR found out Hadley’s true allegiance to the Legion, they declared her an Enemy Of State.

BACKSTORY

Describe their childhood:
Hadley was born at Bitter Springs to Great Khan parents she never met. A few months after her birth, the tragic Bitter Springs Massacre occurred, killing her parents. Great Khan children that were not killed in the firefight were removed from the site and given to NCR families. Hadley was given to a man named First Lieutenant Abran Steward and his wife; Abran was the man who found her in the first place, hiding in metal chest filled with soft blankets. Hadley’s parents tried to prevent her from being shot. Abran and his wife raised Hadley at Camp McCarran near Vegas due to his duties requiring his attention there.

Describe their teenage years:
Throughout her childhood and teen years, Hadley was an NCR military child with no knowledge that she was adopted from Bitter Springs. Starting at age 6, Abran trained Hadley extensively at hand-to-hand combat, teaching her all the tricks and techniques that came with it. At the same time, Abran taught her about love, peace, and tolerance and how in the Wasteland one need a certain amount of good to outweigh the bad; he also taught her that having a bit of justice and ruthlessness was good as well to eradicate the bad people (or at least keep them out of her way). He told her to care deeply for the sick and poor and help them out when needed.
When she was 13, Abran began to pressure Hadley to join the military when she reached 16, the official age to join the NCR military. She went along with it, but secretly she wanted to be a doctor. Hadley began to study medicine with Doctor Kemp, Camp McCarran’s resident doctor. Doctor Kemp realized Hadley was very intelligent and was more than glad to help her learn medicine.
A few months before her 16th birthday, Hadley’s mother died. Abran, now a Major, decides to sit Hadley down and have the talk that he and his wife never had a chance to give her- that she was actually the daughter of Great Khans and that he found her after the Bitter Springs Massacre. Hadley, like almost every person in the Mojave Wasteland, knew about the massacre and how much blood was spilled. Outraged that he took her, a Great Khan, and wanted to put her in the military only to fight her own family, Hadley packed up her stuff and left McCarran. Major Abran watched his daughter leave and did nothing to stop her. Abran knew her will was strong and she was independent, but also, everything that he had taught her in the last decade she would put to good use.

Describe their adult years:
Within months of leaving the NCR, Hadley was thrown into the gruesome world of drugs, alcohol, sex, and violence. As a late teenager she was nothing more than a prostitute trying to make enough money for her next fix. She was addicted to almost every drug out there, especially Med-X to make her numb and forget.
After leaving McCarran, she wandered over to North Vegas and migrated into the sewers to live homeless. At first she took the duty of healing the sick, but soon enough she was being tempted by the addicts to use their drugs. Hadley was eventually drawn farther down into the sewer system where the hardcore junkies lived.
When she was 18, she and a couple of fellow junkies left the sewers to make their way to South Vegas where the Fiends, dangerously crazed raiders livid. They were stocked with drugs, and Hadley's group wanted access to them. On the way there, they were captured by a group of Legionaries led by Lucius, the third highest ranking member of Caesar's Legion. They were taken to the Fort where Hadley came somewhat out of her addiction fueled haze. She began to fight the Legionaries by punching them and knocked out two recruits before the situation was called to Caesar’s attention.
Caesar had Hadley apprehended and offered her three things- to either be killed, made a slave, or made a Legionnaire. He showed her the one thing she was never shown, which was mercy. She chose to become a Legionnaire to get revenge on the NCR for killing her family. When Hadley asked Caesar why he chose her, not only a woman, (women were not allowed into the Legion), but a junkie with NCR ties to become a Legionnaire, he told her he admired her will to keep her freedom and that he also saw a talent in the way she punched his soldiers.
Upon her recruitment into the Legion, Caesar formally bestowed the name Filia Hostem onto her because she was, afterall, the daughter of his enemies.
In the next two years, Hadley broke everyone’s expectations with how far she’d make it in the Legion. Caesar’s laws about no drugs or alcohol forced Hadley to go sober, and Caesar also took special time to teach Hadley all of the Legion’s unarmed moves. He was impressed with her extensive knowledge of unarmed combat. He was also surprised when she demonstrated an advanced knowledge of medicine skills and had her be his personal physician for the many health problems he endured. Within a year of living at the Fort, Hadley was a highly skilled and dangerous Frumentarii, which were intelligence officers hand picked by Caesar himself to infiltrate enemy lines. They were special agents of the Legion that operate separately from the main army and usually by themselves.
Shortly after becoming Caesar’s left hand Frumentarii, Hadley visited the Mormon Fort in Freeside to donate some medicine to The Followers Of The Apocalypse. During the visit, she met a young woman who looked strangely a lot like her except for some minor facial details and hair color. The woman rushed up to Hadley and introduced herself as Mackenzie Springs, her long lost sister. Mackenzie explained how Hadley was too young to remember her because she was just a baby when the massacre occurred, and also how spared children were given to different households- Mackenzie was given to The Followers and was 4 when Bitter Springs happened, so she recalled the tragedy vividly in her mind.
Reunited, the sisters vowed never to stray from each other again. However, Hadley’s lifestyle requires her to be everywhere, while Mackenzie has an agenda of her own- but the two kept in touch frequently.

Wow, this took me awhile to complete!

I love this character though, because she tries so hard to please everyone while upholding her family and beliefs. I feel like most people have to go through it at some point, but in her case, it's extreme.

Hadley is the first of several character I created for the Four Of New Vegas fanfiction that I plan to write in the near future. She works for the Legion while still keeping close ties with the NCR and many other 'enemy' factions. She's a Great Khan by heart though. c: (Hadley actually encourages the Great Khans to not join the Legion because she knows deep down that they'll be made slaves, and they're still her family. This was the only time she's ever outrightly disobeyed Caesar).
